The Weatherwax Nature Preserve is located roughly in the middle of the Point Brown Peninsula. Comprised of 121 acres, the 1.2-mile looping trail system skirts Duck Lake and showcases our temperate coastal forest with majestic old trees, forest vegetation and habitat, and mature wetlands. Home to more than two dozen diverse types of vegetation including giant Sitka spruce trees and nearly 60 mushroom varieties, it is home to approximately 100 different animal species.
While Weatherwax is owned by the City of Ocean Shores and open to the public, the Coastal Interpretive Center holds a stewardship contract with the City to properly maintain the site. Since part of the Weatherwax area is an official wetland bank, there are specific state and federally mandated stewardship requirements.
